Poland is mostly lowland. The average height equals 173 m. Low-laying parts of the country (lower than 300 m) constitute about 91,3 % of Poland’s territory, uplands (300-500 m) – 5,6 %, and mountains (over 500 m) only 3,1 %.
Despite the majority of lowland Polish landscape is very varied. Poland is famous for its lakes (there are over 9300 of them) and rivers (main rivers of Poland are Vistula (Wisla) and Odra).

Geography
Poland is located in the very centre of Europe. With the total area of 312,679 km⊃2; (120,728 sq mi) it’s the seventh biggest country on the continent. Polish population is over 38,5 million people. The capital city is Warsaw (around 2 million inhabitants). Poland borders 7 countries: Germany on the west, Czech Republic and Slovakia on the south, Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania on the east, and Russia on the north.
Most of the country is located on lowlands. On the south there are upland areas with two major mountain chains – the Carpathians (Karpaty) and the Sudetes (Sudety). The Baltic sea coastline on the north measures 770 km. The longest river, Vistula (Wisla) is 1,047 km (678 miles) long.
The highest point of Poland is the peak of Rysy, 2,499 meters (8, 199 ft) in elevation. The lowest point in Poland is at 2 meters (7 ft) below sea level, located in the Vistula Delta.
The climate is moderate. The average summer temperature ranges from 20 °C (68 °F) to 30 °C (86 °F). Winters are cold – the average ranges from 3 °C (37,4 °F) in the northwest to –8 °C (17,6 °F) in the northeast.
Study in Poland represents a multi-year programme promoting Polish higher education and attracting international students to Poland. Non-EU/EEA Citizens Non-EU citizens studying in Poland are allowed to work in July, August and September. For the rest of the year a work permit is needed. Acquiring a work permit is very unlikely, as it's only granted if no EU citizen is found to fill the vacancy. Formalities must be done by the employer. International students are not allowed to work on a student visa basis. If you're a EU/EEA citizen you are allowed to work full time without any permission. If you're a citizen of Belarus, Russia or Ukraine you may work for 3 months in a period no longer than 6 months. All other nationals may work without permission in July, August and September.

Higher Education in Poland Poland's higher education system is comprised of is made up of State (public) and non-State (non-public) institutions. Non-State higher education institutions are established on the basis of a permit issued by the Minister of Science and Higher Education, and acquire legal personality upon their entry into the register of non-State higher education institutions kept by the Minister. In addition to existing university-type intitutions, State and non-State higher vocational education schools have been established since 1998. A major component of training in these schools is a compulsory 15-week practical placement.
Higher education programs may be offered as full-time, part-time or extramural studies. Full time studies are the basic mode of study, unless the statutes of a higher education institution state otherwise.
The minimum requirement for access to a higher education institution is a secondary school leaving certificate. Procedures for admission to study programs are laid down independently by the higher education institutions.

How do I legalize my stay in Poland? If you're a EU/EEA citizen you need no visa to travel to Poland. You just need to register your stay in local Voivodship's Office within 91 days from the date of crossing the Polish border. Citizens of other countries must apply for a long-term visa or a residence permit in a local Polish consulate.
All international students must acquire a temporary residence certificate in the local Municipal Office's Population Registry Bureau. This must be done within 3 days from the date of crossing the Polish border.
